Range Safety

RANGE QUALIFICATION SAFETY POLICY
(THIS MEANS YOU):

1. This is a certification class and not a training class, so it is assumed you have proper handgun safety and proficiency. If you do not, this is NOT the class for you! Please consider taking our Handgun 101 class first.

2. WE DO NOT ALLOW GUNS THAT DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOCK-BACK ON EMPTY. If you are not sure of this, contact us. This poses a safety risk on the firing line. We also reserve the right to ban certain firearms that we deem as unsafe or unreliable. Your safety and the safety of others including our instructors is our primary importance.

3. WE WILL NOT ALLOW YOU ON THE FIRING LINE WITH A GUN THAT IS NEW AND HAS NEVER BEEN STRIPPED AND LUBRICATED. A new gun out of the box will jamb if it has not been properly stripped and lubricated. We have seen this happen routinely and it poses a safety risk on the firing line.

4. YOU SHOULD ARRIVE WITH BOTH YOUR HANDGUN AND YOUR MAGAZINES UNLOADED AND KEPT IN A RANGE BAG OR BACKPACK AT ALL TIMES. GUNS AND AMMO MUST STAY LOCKED IN YOUR VEHICLE AND ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM.

5. DO NOT COME TO CLASS HAVING NEVER SHOT YOUR HANDGUN OR LOADED A MAGAZINE. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO JOIN US ON THE RANGE FOR QUALIFICATION.

6. We reserve the right to stop instruction at any time and ask you to leave if we deem you are a safety risk to yourself or others or if you do not follow our instructions and safety protocols. This includes having a bad attitude.

7. If you exhibit unsafe gun handling on the range, such as pointing the gun at yourself or others or keeping your finger on the trigger (when not firing), or struggling to load or operate your handgun, you will be asked to leave and come back another time. Please understand that is for your safety and everyone around you.

8. Everyone is required to wear eye and ear protection. No exceptions. If you are hard of hearing, then you may need to consider electronic ear muffs which amplify voice sound, so you can hear voice commands. If you cannot hear range commands, then you cannot participate in the shooting test.

9. Know and be able to load (and unload) your own magazines (semi-automatics) and cylinders (revolvers). Some magazine springs are stiffer than others, especially new ones. You will need to be able to load from 6 to 10 rounds into your magazines. (We will adjust this depending on everyone’s magazine (or cylinder) capacity).

10. You will be shooting on a “line” along with other people. This tends to make some people nervous if they have never shot this way before. So, practice safe gun handling and shoot your gun before class!
